We have had a good week in the trading room. A question of liquidity on Tuesday evening but most people are 100% green on the weeks trades so far.

I want to cover just one simple point here in this blog. When I first started Bet Exchange Traders I always spoke about discipline and in fact if you take a look at the front page of my site here betexchangetraders.com you'll see I mention the word several times. Success and discipline go hand in hand. One comes if you have the other.

People who know me, know that Im not a crower, I certainly dont go on about the fact that I have changed things around for myself via the exchanges. I remember only too well the years that I spent slaving away struggling to make a living, the early mornings and late nights home back from work. So I understand what people are going through if they are still at this stage in proceedings.

But what I want to say is the following, I know and understand that people have to mix trading with work and family commitments, but you need to apply extra discilpline to your trading when doing this. For example if you have a trade lined up and cant get onto Betfair because you are stuck in traffic or get held up by work and end up getting home late, simply dont take the trade you had lined up if the event has already started. If you do this, firstly you wont be properly prepared to trade and secondly youll normally be buying bad value as regards to trade placement.

Let me give you an example. Imagine you want to Back the draw in the match Arsenal V Juventus and that pre kick off the price is 3.5. If you have already worked out that your exit point after 30 minutes will be between 2.8 and 3.0 then if you come in late from work and step up to BACK at 3.2 for example, (the price already having moved 4 pips) youll be leaving yourself very badly positioned if things go wrong. In fact you will be limiting your profit and increasing your exposure. This is something you should not do.

The point is, if you miss a trade, dont chase it, let it go, there are literally hundreds of trades per week to choose from. Likewise dont beat yourself up or get mad, work for the moment pays the bills, the exchanges add the icing on the cake, soon youll be able to make a switch but until that time if you are late back from work and the trade is already underway forget the trade put your feet up and enjoy the match. There is always another game tomorrow night.
