Hi Peter, Thanks for taking the time to give this interview. I know there are many Betting Exchange Traders out there who would like to know more about you, Bet Angel and your Trading Course.

Can you tell me more about yourself and how you got into Trading on the Betting Exchanges?

It’s my dad’s fault. He used to get me to fill out the football pools coupon years ago and from those very simple beginnings I explored the world of sports betting but back then I came to the conclusion that sports betting was a bit pointless because only the bookmaker would win in the long term. It remained that way till the dawn of betting exchanges. I joined Betfair 11 days after they opened for business and never looked back. After dismissing betting markets many years before I had gone on to pursue a successful career on financial markets so it was a bit ironic that I started to be interested in betting markets again. This time though, I was armed with to the teeth with many years knowledge on the sports and financial markets.

I have read in many places on the Internet that Bet Angel is one of the best if not the best Trading Software available. What makes it better than other software?

Bet Angel is a bit of an accident really. I used to be a coder many years ago but I lost touch with my roots and didn’t have the time to keep up with developments in the market for a quite a few years. So I decided to try and get other vendors to implement the features I wanted to be able to trade the market more effectively. When most of them didn’t follow up my suggestions I guessed maybe they were more interested in selling the software rather than using it. So I got together with some other traders and created Bet Angel.

Can you give me a quick run down of its features for anyone wanting to purchase Bet Angel.

There are so many features it’s difficult to know where to start, we are adding new components every month also, so I suggest the best thing to do is to trial the software as by the time you read this it will be out of date!

At the moment we provide one click trading areas with vertical (ladder) or horizontal odds trading screens, triggered betting scenario’s, dutching, bookmaking, Spreadsheet integration and an area to save and re-introduce bets to the market.

Those are only the broad features though; the functionality behind them is massive. We put a lot of emphasis on order management into and out of the market as we know this is critical to being a successful trader. You can do clever things like hold an order in the market at a speculative price so you can ensure you are near front of the queue and then get Bet Angel to manage your counter position automatically. There are loads of features in the software but all of them are geared to ensuring the best possible position in the market.

We should also emphasise that it has been built for stability and reliability, we use the software pretty much everyday and we are aware that our users, including us, commit very large amounts of money to the market. We owe it to everybody to provide a platform that can deliver that money safely. All the support team are traders and as such they get to see what is happening first hand, this is a perfect feedback mechanism.

Do you have any Bet Angel software upgrades planned for the future?

We have only just started, as long as the software is commercially viable we will continue to provide new features, we aim to plough most of the revenue back into the product. There are a lot of surprises due so keep your eyes open as we plan to significantly widen the product and feature mix over time. Also, as the general exchange market grows, this will necessitate the need for further developments, we intend to be there providing them.

I came on your trading course back in 2005, it was excellent meeting other betting exchange traders and learning the tricks of the trade! Can you tell my readers a little more about the course?

Thanks. In the course I aim to give people a look under the bonnet of the market and give them a view of how and why things happen and how they can take advantage of that. Also it’s pretty unique to find somebody that actually, really, does do it for a living who is willing to talk about it. It’s a great chance to ask me questions that you may need answering. I have spent an inordinate amount of time and money studying the markets and specific sports events, so the course is my chance to pass that information on. I’ve always maintained the philosophy that if I died tomorrow without discussing things I have learnt, I would have wasted my time on the planet. By writing and talking about my experiences I can address that need. As long as people are interested in what I have to say and it pays for me to be away from my trading desk, I don’t mind taking the odd day out here and there to talk about it.
