How long have you been in the Horse racing and betting industry and what experience do you have?

Horse racing has been a passion of mine for over 20 years and I class myself as extremely fortunate to be in a job and position that I thoroughly enjoy.

Prior to being involved on a professional capacity within the Racing Industry, I would have classed myself as a semi-professional gambler.  I have always been interested in the form book and spent many hours studying races in search of the winner, although I would class myself as a fairly successful punter, to make this your full time occupation carries to high a risk in my opinion.

As my interest and knowledge increased, I started working as a freelance-racing journalist,  I did small online pieces and articles, but then an opportunity arose for me to have a weekly column with one of the UK’s biggest selling weekly’s, The Western Gazette.  It is still something I continue to do after three years, with much focus of my editorial revolving around the Somerset trainers Paul Nicholls, Philip Hobbs and Martin Pipe.  I have also regularly written for online racing sites and several other monthly publications.

Last December, I then decided to launch my own racing media company – appropriately named, Racemedia.  It has been in the pipeline for sometime, but it was a case of waiting for the correct time to launch the service, along with our own monthly magazine HORSE TALK.

I hear you have a new monthly magazine called Horse Talk that’s currently available?

Yes, my media company Racemedia publish the magazine, which is unique as we have decided to produce it in dual format, PDF and online.  With the internet being the biggest form of distributing media nowadays, it made sense to have a dedicated racing publication available online.

Quality is maintained, and it looks and feels like any other magazine when reading it as a PDF file.  Subscribers are also free to print this out to read as a normal printed publication.  The online ‘web’ version is full interactive and again looks like a printed publication, but is simply viewed 100% online.

Another advantage of using these methods, is that we can reduce unwanted advertising, which fills traditional publications and also keep content as up to date as possible, as we do not have to run to print deadlines, some three weeks in advance.

Can you tell me a little more about it and what customers can expect to find in it each month?

We are fortunate that we have received the full support of the British Racing Industry, including the BHB and RCA, the major governing bodies of the sport.  Besides these we have formed associations with major players within the industry, including TurfTrax, whom most of you will be familiar with from Channel 4 racing.  They will be providing all of our data and statistics.

Regards content, it will maintain everything you would associate with a racing publication, full race previews for all major races, exclusive trainer files and interviews, speed ratings and tips form our resident tipster, Harry the Horse.

We also provide as a special bonus, exclusive form guides and race previews on a daily basis to subscribers for every day of The Cheltenham Festival, The Grand National Meeting & Royal Ascot.

But on top of all this there will be regular and ongoing features taking a deeper look at the sport and the people and bodies involved ‘behind the scenes’.

The magazine supports the approved charity of British Racing, The RoR, Retraining of Racehorses and we make a donation to them from every subscription sold.

What’s the current cost of subscription?

The current cost is a very affordable £25.00 for 18 months subscription.  That’s less than £1.40 a month!

The form guides alone are worth the subscription fee!

I would imagine you have some big plans for HORSE TALK as there aren’t many other good magazines for horse racing available! Can you tell me where you expect the publication to go in the future?

First of all we need to establish the magazine as the premier monthly racing publication.  The whole concept has really caught the imagination of people so far, with a very positive response.

In the future we would like to expand on our mini-issue form guide publications for major meetings, which could become a product of their own.

With the backing and support we have, we expect the content line-up to get stronger and constantly improve as time goes on.

The whole concept of the magazine is the long-term picture.  As from experience printed publications have a very short life-span due to publishing overheads etc.

We want HORSE TALK to be here in 10 years time and be back to talk about plans for the next decade!

Do you have anything else planned for the future?

The Racemedia website is the other arm of my media group.  It brings together all Racing industry resources and associates, in one easy to use website.

This will develop and evolve as required, but it has been designed to be a ‘one-stop’ racing information site, for racing enthusiasts and is also the portal to subscribe to the HORSE TALK magazine.

Is there anything else you would like me to tell my readers?

If you love racing, then you will enjoy the HORSE TALK publication.

Our race previews are as current as possible, advertising is kept to a minimum and it is the ONLY fully APPROVED racing publication for British Racing and offers something for everyone.

At £25.00 it is readily affordable to all, so visit us today and subscribe!
