Redd Horse RacingI became actively involved with betting around fifteen or sixteen years ago. I had bought some race-predictor ratings software from an advert in the back of one of the Sunday papers. At heart of something of a nerd, and decided I could develop a better program. That’s when I really got interested in learning to study form and probability.

Hi Max, Thanks very much for agreeing to take part in this interview.

How long have you been interested in horses and how did you get involved?

Hello Gavin, my pleasure. My grandfather worked on a farm on Exmoor, and often the local hunt would meet there. As a family we always spent the school summer holidays on the farm and I guess that’s where I was first impressed by the sight of horses jumping fences.

I became actively involved with betting around fifteen or sixteen years ago. I had bought some race-predictor ratings software from an advert in the back of one of the Sunday papers. At heart of something of a nerd, and decided I could develop a better program. That’s when I really got interested in learning to study form and probability.

It was my ‘party trick’ to run my software program, then go to the bookies with some mates on Grand National day, and predict the winner. I got free drinks for quite a while after I tipped Lord Gyllene in 1997. I was already making a useful second income from betting, when one day a friend of mine suggested I should start my own tipping service – and in 2003 Redd Racing was born!

What can people expect to get when they sign up to your tipping service? Can you tell us a bit more about it.

I advise selections to back, and also horses I recommend opposing by laying to lose on the exchanges. All my selections are advised with a minimum price that I consider to represent value. Getting good value each and every time we bet, is the cornerstone of my betting philosophy, and if a horse does not reach my ‘value’ criteria, then we let it run un-backed. I think I am one of only a few tipsters who pay any attention to price, rather than simply giving their members ‘tips’.

I noticed that you tend to write a lot of articles, do you have a list of all the articles you have written and can you point my readers to the page where the articles are?

I get more than a few comments about my articles. By its very nature, horse racing is all about opinions, and my articles are mostly an expression of my opinions, my experience, and my take on racing topics. But it is rewarding when someone takes the time to drop me a line and say I have helped them learn something new. Everybody who joins my free newsletter at my web site will get unlimited access to all my articles.

Do you have any special offers for your tipping service at present? Any free trials or discounts?

Anyone can have a free week-long trial of my service. Like most of your readers, I am sure, I have in the past been tempted into sending a cheque to an anonymous tipster after reading their glossy brochures, only to find their service didn’t live up to the promises they were making. My free trial allows people to sample my service without risk of payment, to see if it suits their betting temperament.

At the moment I am also offering considerable discounts to new members, with the promise that their monthly rate will never increase so long as they remain a member. Join now and the rate stays fixed forever!

Do you proof your tips and if so, where can I find them.

No, I don’t proof my tips any longer, although I did in the past. Rather I now prefer to give customers the confidence to sign up by offering a profit guarantee to all members. If you are not in profit after 60 days then I will refund your membership fees in full. I encourage people to ‘paper-trade’ my service for 2 months, safe in the knowledge they can claim their money back if they do not wish to continue their membership.

I noticed a fair amount of testimonials on your site, you must have a lot of happy customers?!

I think people will only decide to subscribe as a member once they are satisfied with the standard of service I give, having taken a trial. So I guess that means more happy customers. I get enough grief from members when I have a bad week (and goodness knows we all have losing spells) so it’s rewarding when I get a message from a satisfied customer from time to time! It gives me great encouragement that I am doing things right.

Is there any advice you can give my readers when it comes to making money on horse racing?

When people take a trial of my service, and even if they do not go on to become a paying subscriber, the one thing I hope they take on board is to try and get value in their betting. If you consistently back horses at prices too high compared to their actual chance of winning, then you WILL make a profit in the long run. Insist on value.

So... what does the future hold for Max Redd and reddracing?

Well, I’m always open to feedback about how I can improve my service. I’ve just been working with a focus group of members to try out a SMS text service provider. All being well I shall be introducing this text-to-mobile service as an option next month.

Looking forward to this coming summer, I am looking to run a Champion Tipster Competition during Royal Ascot.

More than that I cannot say, but rest assured I shall continue to work hard to provide an excellent and profitable service for my members. Thank you.
