Getaway to take Cup back to France

The first major race this weekend is the Coronation Cup on Friday afternoon. Despite probably having the best middle distance performer in Europe among the line-up, this wouldn't be the strongest renewal of this race in recent years and so surely, Getaway can live up to his name under S Pasquier for a trainer who has won this race six times before in the shape of A Fabre.

The likes of Macarthur, Multidimensional, the quirky Papal Bull, Anna Pavlova and Turbo Linn should all be outclassed, and so that narrows the field down somewhat.

The dangers surely can only include former Breeders Cup winner Red Rocks, who is to be partnered by L Dettori, Soldier Of Fortune, who was only a half length behind the selection in last years' Prix De L'arc De Triomphe when finishing 5th to Dylan Thomas, and Youmzain, who was 2nd that day, beating both Getaway and Soldier Of Fortune.

Since his 3yo days, Red Rocks has been a little bit hit and miss, with only two successes to his record both coming in much weaker races than this. He may run prominently but for win purposes I pass him over.

Soldier Of Fortune ran a stormer in the Arc last year, and does rate as a danger to Getaway here. He kept running so consistently in top company last year and I respect his chances.

Youmzain is another who constantly ran well in top races last season, and was so unlucky to go down to Dylan Thomas at Longchamp. But in these top races he has a habit of finding one or two, too good and so this for me is a worry.

In this small field, it will probably suit the french horse all the more than a race such as the Arc. Getaway wasn't beaten far in that last year and seems to have improved over the winter. His performance in the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket the other day was from the top draw. He showed an electrifying burst of speed at the end and the same here I believe will put this race to bed. He won't be much of a price, but I cannot see him being beaten.
