I call this cunning advertising on the Turf Accountant's part, since the chances of winning that kind of money for a single straight £1 line are probably a good deal lesser than those 434/1 odds imply. Anyway, I'll stop moaning about the terrible tricks that the 'old enemy' play, and get cracking with letting you know the best way to approach what is effectively a six-race accumulator.On doing my research into all three race meetings that took place during the afternoon on Wednesday October 29, 2008, I came up with the following results regarding the fate of the favourite and second favourite.

Huntingdon (NH) – Wednesday October 29, 2008
1.      1.20 juvenile hurdle – FAV placed, 2nd FAV placed
2.    1.50 juvenile hurdle -FAV unplaced, 2nd FAV placed
3.    2.20 h/cap chase -JOINT FAV placed, other JOINT FAV unplaced

So, these stats clearly demonstrate the importance of including both the favourite and the second favourite in your Placepot lines, with all 18 races seeing either the market leader or the next best in the betting filling the placings.

Finally, a word of advice. Never be afraid to include one or more bankers in your lines. As indicated above in the bold type, the odds-on favourite in novice hurdles and in maidens on the level only are easily the strongest races to pick in my humble opinion.
