A mate of mine visited me over the weekend for a catch up as I hadn’t seen him in a long time, due mainly to work commitments. Anyway he was curious to see what I had been doing in the dark world of sports betting. Gambling is to most people, an issue, a problem, a mischief, or a habit, but to others it’s a business opportunity. Some people just know that they shouldn’t gamble and avoid temptation like the plague; others however can’t help it, know matter what the result it’s all about the thrill.
It really all comes down to having the right sort of personality to deal with the highs and lows and having the ability to adapt to the changes as they present themselves. To have an addictive personality is in general not good; however for a gambler it’s disastrous. Some people believe it or not “like to lose”, it’s true. These people don’t ever expect to win for them the release of a bet gives them some gratification for there effort. If they manage a win or two along the way then it’s a bonus and gives them even more to bet next time round. No matter how crazy this sounds I can assure you it’s true. If you have ever been to your local casino and just stood at a table watching how crazy some people get and how easily they place random bets with different stakes then some of what Im saying will start to make sense.
I was talking about this with my mate and he basically told me that no matter how much he wants to bet on the football or horses he just cannot allow himself to place even one bet. He said he had to miss the last works night out as someone decided the casino would make a great place for staff members to bond get drunk and gamble there wages packets away. Gambling and booze go hand in hand but drinking and gambling is the quickest way to lose money and the casinos know it.
I asked him was it all to do with his self control and he basically said he had none what-so-ever. Basically it’s all or nothing with him, no in-between. Otherwise before he knows it he will go buck wild and be out on the street before the weekend. He puts it’s down to his addictive personality. I’ll give you an example, when he goes to the gym he doesn’t go like a normal person, he goes twice a day seven days a week, when he buys a bottle of coke he drinks bottle after bottle for the entire week.
He told me one week he couldn’t stop drinking bottles of water, then next he can’t get enough espresso, now these are his words not mine so you can imagine what would happen if he ended up in the bookies. Im sure he would just bet on every race with no idea what he was doing apart from throwing money away, and lots of it. So the moral of this story if you like, don’t get drunk while gambling and expect to come home with anything other than a takeaway if your lucky, and never ever give your friend betting tips if you think he may be drinking excessive amounts of espresso’s.
