Sometimes I find it quite strange not complying with the normal 9 till 5 routine. Ok so I do head into the office for around 11.30am after a session at the gym and sometimes I’m there till midnight. But you know what? I wouldn’t change one thing about it. Now the 9-5 type of lifestyle may suit some people and I’m by no means having a go if it’s your thing. For me I always wanted something else rather than the regular type life. Let me give you an example, I was at a friend’s engagement party at the weekend. You know the type of thing, all the guys the wives and girlfriends lots of food and too much alcohol.

Anyway it surprised me as I ear wigged into a couple of conversations how many people talk work after hours. As per usual the conversation on our table shifted from person to person and gambling was mentioned and everyone looked at me. Talking about gambling gets a different response from different people. Some hang there heads, others are all ears, wives look at husbands with glared eyes and some just sit arms folded and say nothing, I suspected a few may have been to gamblers anonymous. Now as common courtesy if someone wants to tell me about what happened at work this week, blah blah blah then I listen.

I must admit if I’m talking to people who are not gamblers then it’s sometime quite difficult to put yourself across without sounding like you are either mad or addicted to prescription drugs. Saying that most people are always interested what I’m up to weather they admit it or not and they always ask do you like what you do? I think some see me as someone who doesn’t work for a living, but believe me nothing could be further from the truth, sometimes people just cant get there heads around what I do. However when I flipped the question I was surprised how many people don’t like what they do for a living, ask yourself this question, how many of your friends moan about work? I’m just throwing this out there but I’m guessing quite a lot!!

Doing something you are passionate about for a job is extremely satisfying. Now that doesn’t mean that a pay check every month is a bad thing, I know lots of people who couldn’t live my life the way I live it. Some people need the security of a pay check every month and a routine to go with it otherwise they don’t know what to do with themselves.

Now ok let’s be fair, its easy to get caught up in a rut and security is an important aspect of lifestyle, we all have bills to pay and in this country you get taxed to the back teeth, but that’s another post for another day. I was surprised how easily people settle for what they have without wanting to progress. Now I thought about this for a while and wondered how the average betting punter would progress if for instance you took them out of there normal environment and gave them nothing else to focus on but making money from sports betting. Then I thought it’s really more to do with the person involved, and there attitude. If for instance I gave you bets everyday for a week, and said right do exactly what I say don’t deviate from the plan and switch off all your emotions. How far do you think the average person would get before life’s distractions managed to creep in and shift their focus point back to mundane chores? I’m guessing not very long.

I was asked over the weekend who I fancied in Euro 2008 and I said well I’ve had a few bets and won, and I also backed Portugal before the campaign kicked off as after a discussion with a mate of mine we thrashed out which teams were likely to do well early as well as provide good value for money. Now lets pretend for a moment that the engagement celebration had happened before the tournament kicked off, how many friends of mine do you think would have placed any football bets if I gave them my betting advice? I reckon non, and you know why, because although they would like to pick up some extra free cash from the markets or bookies betting doesn’t suit their lifestyle, now they may have a flutter every year at the Grand National but as they are so caught up with the 9-5 routine that comfortable feelings kick in and all they really want is a quiet life. I guarantee next time we have a get together they will all be kicking themselves when they ask how much I won from the Euro 2008.

Self motivation is the key as well as wanting something bad enough that you go out there and grab it no matter what. Now this road may very well be uneven and uphill at times but once you pick yourself up from the few falls along the way then it can be rewarding on a grand scale. There is money out there with your name on it now all you have to do is go out and grab it until you can’t grab anymore.
