So last week at Newcastle the Northumbrian Plate provided the entertainment for punters in the North East. Now we will get to this later but seeing as I’ve been working so hard trying to plan for my client’s future I decided its time to take some time out. So as I searched for my flat cap, hip flask and binoculars I couldn’t wait to get down to the track. However seeing as I’ve left things till the last minute my suit hadn’t even made it to the dry cleaners, and all the tickets for the Premier enclosure were sold out. Not to worry just make the best of it and pay on the door. Now before race day its always good sense to lash a large full English breakfast down before letting battle commence with the beer tent, our lasses words not mine. I questioned my morals as I left my healthy diet at the café door, not that I gave them another thought as I greedily stuffed bacon, eggs and toast down my neck swiftly followed by three cups of tea. A fully charged Ross was now ready to do damage even without his belt.

Now as I intend to use Newcastle as the backdrop for my future seminars you would have thought free complimentary tickets would find there way into my possession from the lovely ladies in the race office. However it didn’t happen seems it’s just me who gives cool freebies away to his clients, past future or present. Not to worry with the amount of touts selling tickets you cannot fail to get a good price even before you reach the track.

So as I trotted down to the Race track with my better half we looked forward to a day of top quality racing, a few cold beers, and a catch up with a few like minded souls and a bet or two along the way. Once inside it became apparent that if the weather managed to hold we were in for a good day. Looking slicker than a scene from Miami Vice, Newcastle didn’t disappoint, and as I tried to do my best Don Johnson impression I figured by the disapproving looks from our lass that rolled up suit sleeves was a step to far.

So there I am in the grandstand, and you know what, the atmosphere was much better. Other than the wind blowing around the weather managed to behave, otherwise the amount of false tan running down ladies legs would have caused a golden river to surge across the track and I’m not sure what the going would be changed too in those circumstances. Now if unlike me you were well prepared and made your picks the night before instead of drinking till 2.30 am with Glen then good for you. This being the case you wouldn’t have the hassle of trying to flick through the racing post while it tries its best to impersonate a flag.

Now I normally do very well at Newcastle. I’ve either won all my bets or had a good strike rate and ended up on top, however on Saturday I just couldn’t get off the mark. Now while I was at the bar, someone was making sneaky bets by herself and looking very sheepish, betting slip in hand. But hey sometimes you just have to get involved and go with the flow, besides I wasn’t hitting any home runs at that stage. It wasn’t until the last three races that I managed to sort my self out. It’s always great to get an early win under your belt but it’s even better to lash an all or nothing bet on the last race. As we headed down to the rail which is somewhat of a tradition, it was cracking to see Stevie Thunder win by a neck and save my graces. To be fair even if he hadn’t managed to win the whole day at the races makes perfect sense for a day out, unless of course you skipped gamblers anonymous to be there. This win set us up for the rest of the evening and a cracking night followed a cracking day.

Now as I was out enjoying myself many Pacquiao was in the ring doing what he does best. Fireworks were flying as Manny Pacquiao's hand speed baffled David Diaz. Pacquiao showed how comfortable he was moving up in weight again. David Diaz, a tough fighter just couldn’t deal with Pacquiao, he lasted until the 9th before Pacman smashed Diaz face down into the canvas in the 9th. Talk has already been mentioned for Pacquiao to move up yet again and Ricky Hatton’s name has also been placed in the pot as a potential super fight, personally I don’t think that will happen. With Floyd Mayweather now retired Joe Calzaghe has been given the best pound for pound fighter title but it won’t be long till Joe hangs up those gloves and then Pacquiao will no doubt take that title.

Euro 2008 came to an end last night and unless you’re an idiot you had Spain backed in the final. For once in recent competitions the best team won and certainly deserved it. Let’s just hope by the time the World Cup comes back around England may have sorted themselves out and give it a real fighting chance. Anyway for this week I’m still sorting all the backend business for my upcoming selection service, I must apologies to all my clients as the launch date has been pushed back to the 15th July, due to circumstances out of my control. Trust me it will be worth the wait.

Regards
